Standing Ovations For 'Highland Heartbeat' In New York
Posted: Monday 7 December 2009
'Highland Heartbeat' performed at the legendary 'Plaza' hotel in New York at the Saint Andrew's Society of New York's 253rd Annual Fundraising Charity Banquet.
Following on from a hugely successful appearance at The Long Island Highland Games this summer, 'Highland Heartbeat's' increasing profile in America led to personal requests that they perform at this prestigious event on 4th December 2009.
Alongside concert performances, 'Highland Heartbeat' has become well-known in the States because of the successful television show 'Highland Heartbeat', which is currently being broadcast coast to coast in America on Public Broadcasting Services (PBS). It features a concert filmed in The Theatre Royal, Glasgow last year and stunning footage filmed around Scotland. It is narrated by the award-winning stage and movie actor Brian Cox who says;
'I saw 'Highland Heartbeat' sing live in New York earlier this year and was blown away by the outstanding talent and personality of the group. We should start celebrating Scottish youth, culture and music; something that 'Highland Heartbeat' does brilliantly!'
'Highland Heartbeat' also enjoyed standing ovations in Scotland this summer, performing at Eden Court in Inverness and also in front of Her Majesty the Queen at the Braemar Games in September.
The concept was developed by Fiona Kennedy - the well known broadcaster, singer and television presenter - and her sister Morven, daughters of the late singers Calum and Anne Kennedy.
'Highland Heartbeat' was joined at The Plaza by Scottish actor John Michie (of Taggart fame) who was the main speaker at the banquet.
